Remembering Rick Fiske

It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of one of Heartland Vintage Racing’s founding members, Rick Fiske.

Rick helped establish HVR in 2010 and remained a vital part of the club for the past 25 years, serving in multiple roles including president, vice-president, treasurer, and longtime board member. His leadership, guidance, and steady presence were instrumental in keeping the club strong and growing.

An Air Force veteran, Rick was also a longtime member of the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) and had been deeply involved in sports cars and racing for most of his life. In his early years, he raced a Triumph TR3A and a 1966 Yenko Stinger Stage II Corvair during the 1970s. Of all the cars he owned over the years, none meant more to him than his beloved 1961 Elva Courier. He campaigned the Elva at major vintage races throughout the Midwest and beyond. In later years, Rick retired from the driver’s seat and entrusted capable friends to race the car, while he proudly watched from the sidelines, taking photos and enjoying the camaraderie of the paddock.

Rick was also a proud member of Age & Treachery Racing, a well-known group of respected Kansas City racers. He rarely missed their regular breakfasts, where stories of cars and races could go on for hours.

More than his cars or his racing, Rick will be remembered for his friendship, his commitment to HVR, and the countless ways he enriched our community.

Our thoughts are with his wife of 56 years, Karen, daughter Suzanne, along with his extended family and friends. Rick will be deeply missed, but his legacy and love for sports cars and historic motorsports will always be part of Heartland Vintage Racing.
